Born in 1972 in West Bengal's Burdwan district, HR Das grew up in an artistic family, surrounded by music and painting. Despite family expectations to pursue a scientific career, Das followed his passion for fine arts, earning a Bachelors in Fine Arts from Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh. While at Khairagarh University, Das painted rural scenes and animals, finding inspiration in the slow-paced life. Relocating to Mumbai after graduation, he felt overwhelmed by the fast-paced city life, leading him to depict village animals like cows and bulls on canvas. His art portrays the fading relationship between humans, animals, nature, and industry. Das's paintings symbolize Shiva's carrier Nandi and the hardworking backbone of Indian agriculture – the common bull. Using monochromatic colors, he creates a vibrant background and portrays his subjects in black and white, emphasizing the calm yet powerful nature of the bulls. His work has been showcased in group and solo exhibitions globally, with art collectors worldwide appreciating and collecting his pieces.
