Nandan Purkayastha, born in Assam in 1986 and a graduate from the National Institute of Fashion Technology, draws inspiration from Indian mythology and a love for old Western cowboy classics. Predominantly monochrome, his drawings and paintings are intricate creations, with unique details brought out using pen and ink, showcasing his distinctive style. Festivals like Durga Puja and the associated rituals are featured with depth and dimension, while his faceless idols and people incorporate interrelated elements in contoured spiral patterns, bringing the images to life. Purkayastha's expertise in fashion and design is evident in the drapery and hairstyles of figures, as well as the contours of various animals.
These works serve as a celebration of the antiquity embedded in the rich history of India, reminiscent of carvings in stone and valued more than gold.
