Chandra decision to adopt trees as his main theme for his first series Kalpakavriksha came to him when he was in Santiniketan. His identity, he says are the colours he uses and his tribal art enthused style. I love everything Indian. I try not to use pale colours. I stick to vibrant colours, and the textures are inspired from different tribal arts and crafts but most importantly they are reflections of my memories of watching my parents weave .
His paintings are a direct reflection of the cues he had accumulated in his childhood by seeing the colours of bright weave patterns and the many stories he had heard at home. Chandra s brilliant use of colours and mind-boggling patterns is what sets him apart from the others.
